Absolute markets lab

Test your idea on history before you put money on it

Describe a rule in a couple of lines, such as “buy when the price is above its average”, and within a second see how it would have traded on some fifty markets over 10–70 years: every trade, every drawdown and a comparison with plain “buy and hold”. The candles are fresh, straight from exchanges and central banks. Free, no sign-up, and everything is calculated in your browser.

5.2% / 6.9%per year: strategy / buy and hold
−27% / −53%worst drawdown

Monthly data, prices without dividends, a fee and slippage of 0.05% each per trade, no return on cash out of the market. This is history, not a forecast.

How to test an idea

Choose a market

The MOEX Russia Index, the S&P 500, gold, bitcoin or your own CSV file: daily and weekly candles, and hourly ones for some markets.

Describe the rule

Take a strategy from the library or write your own: when to buy, when to sell, where the stop is.

Compare with buy and hold

Return, worst drawdown, trades and results by year, side by side with a simple purchase and no further action.

Try to break it

Test the rule on new data, on neighboring parameters and with double costs. Whatever survives is a reason to keep thinking, not a guarantee.

Numbers the ads leave out

The lab is not here for pretty charts. It is here so you see the risk before the trade.

97%

of day traders in Brazil who traded intraday for 300 days or more ended up with a loss (Chague, De-Losso, Giovannetti).

2.9%

a year was the average return of a retail portfolio in Russia in 2023–2025; only 9% of investors beat the stock index with dividends (Bank of Russia, June 2026).

0 of 29

Donchian channel variants on crypto passed the checks set in advance in the Absolute lab experiments (October 2026).

Questions

Are these signals on what to buy?

No. AbsoTrade shows how rules would have traded on history, and the general regime of markets by simple formulas. This is not individual investment advice: such advice takes into account your goals, time horizon and risk, and none of that is here.

Where does the data come from, and how fresh is it?

Your browser takes exchange candles (Moscow Exchange, Binance, VNDirect) straight from the exchanges, so they are fresh at the moment you open the page. Open data (Bank of Russia, EIA, Fed, OECD) is kept on our server. The source of every series is on the Data page.

Can I connect a broker and trade from here?

No. AbsoTrade does not trade, accept money or copy trades. It is a lab: test an idea, understand the risk and decide for yourself.

Where are my strategies stored?

Only in your browser (localStorage) and in the link, if you share it. Your own CSV file is also read right in the browser and is not sent anywhere.

Why are real-life results worse than in the test?

Taxes, wide slippage in a panic, missed trades, emotions and a rule fitted to history. A test shows the best case for the rule, not for the person.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. The library has ten ready-made strategies with parameter sliders, and the rule language is a couple of dozen words, such as “buy when” and “stop 5%”. Russian keywords work too.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. AbsoTrade is a project of the Absolute community, open to everyone.
